@SubJunk: Thx for the info. I have since upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10, which includes JDK 7 in the repos. After installing JDK7, ffmpeg, and mencoder.. all is well again!

switching back to the old Source fixed PMS for me 61-63 Version rund smooth as normal.
